Modern day technological changes have not only impacted the way we live but also the way we work. Once such change has occurred into the lives of artist who by the use of Art prints are able to reproduce their original art and sell them without putting much effort as it takes to create the original art.
With the rise in sales of art prints in India there should also be some rise in ways and methods to protect the art print from getting damaged. It has been seen that artist who use acidic paper do not concentrate on the importance of a slightly expensive acid free paper that actually lasts more than its counterpart. You should always ask the art prints stores in India weather the art has been printed on an acid free paper or not. The reasons are that if the paper itself contains acid it shall start to react with any other material that comes in its contact. Be it a tape, moisture and glues that are used for framing. Even if acute care is taken while custom framing the art print by using acid free framing material there are less chances that you shall be able to protect the fine art print from deteriorating over the time.
After you ensure that the art print is actually printed on a thick acid free paper you should make sure that you are getting the print framed using good quality acid free framing materials. When we say acid free all it means is that the glues used to stick the print to the mat, the mat and the backing all should be either treated against acid effect or contain natural pigments that do not contain acid. This ensures that your print does not become yellow over time or is some cases it does not start to develop cracks which are completely irreversible. The fact that several local framers do not use genuine acid free material results in green mould like things appearing in front of the image and glass. This typically makes a permanent damage that not many restorers can reverse.
After you have ensured that the art print is framed properly with all the basic steps of custom framing followed, you should now ensure that the framed art is not hung in a place that is damp or has a lot of moisture. Areas close to showers, sinks & kitchen taps are bound to be damp even if they do not appear to be. So avoid hanging art work on places that have excessive moisture or dampness on the walls since this is bound to affect the framing or the art print you have hung inside it. Especially art prints when framed in India are an easy target of dampness and thus moulds which grows in high moisture areas.
Thus by following these simple steps you can ensure that you are protecting the art print for years to come and you never know when thus fine art print becomes an art that is rare and you are fetching thousands of rupees for its aesthetic sense that you managed to protect for years.
